We had a death in the family. Uncle Raymond passed away this last week. He will be missed. I did not know him very well. I've only met him a few times but my wife was close to him and still is with his wife, Aunt Margarette. Teresa is driving up tomorow to be with her. My MIL, Seth, and Teresa's brother - Allen, are going too. My dad met Uncle Raymond this last week and he will be preaching the funeral on Tuesday.

The police department is really stepping into the 21st Century. We now have a $25,000 surveillance kit, a police car video recording system, and even a laptop mounted in the car. My officer's have thanked me for acquiring the latter two items. They will really be used! We have had the car camera system for two days and already it has been used to protect one officer from a possible fabricated complaint (I'm expecting a complaint but don't have it yet) and to record a DWI arrest. Who knows maybe in the near future you may see one of us on Court TV...probably not. :)

J. What happened? I stepped away from recording for a while but now I want to get back into it. I'm thinking of producing a radio program to be broadcast on Easter. The concept of the program is: "The Curtman Family Easter Special" So many folks in our family are musically inclined. I spoke with my dad about this yesterday and he thought it would be a great idea. May even do one for July 4th, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

It sure is getting colder. I have been ill again....situational hypertension is what the Doc called it. A few other things added to it. Brent just got back from church camp. He had a good time. My dad is supposed to call me this morning. We are going to meet in Sikeston. He is on his way back from preaching a revival in Mississippi. My website @ www.soundclick.com/jaycurtman is doing well. I have had about 90 full downloads from the music page this month alone.

My neighbor Joe and his wife, Nikki just had a baby boy. He sure is proud. Joe is 21 yrs old and this is their first!

Do you like 70's Vintage Gospel Music? Are you a John Ashcroft fan? I am going to try to take a firearms instructor course this fall. I have written 2 traffic tickets since I started up. One for 43 MPH in a 25 zone and one for 47/25. We did go on our camping trip and the boys had a great time. It is Thursday morning and I have spent the last seven days recovering from pneumonia. I am feeling much better now with just a slight sinus infection and a tiny bit of chest congestion. I am ready to go back to work tonight! I work tonight and tomorow night and then I am off for about 16 more days. We are going to the Grand Canyon and then to New Mexico to spend some time with Uncle John and Aunt Marsha! My MIL is going with us! If you ask Seth what the Grand Canyon is he says "Big Hole" I stayed up last night and watched an old "Our Gang" tape with Seth. It was about the "wild man" who called candy "yum-yum-eat-em-up" Seth laughed his little heart out...especially when Spanky shot fireworks at the wild man! I love to watch children laugh. I think God gave adults a great gift when he gave children laughter.

J. Well, I had to drop out of the mayoral race due to a technical difficulty. I have that issue taken care of and may run next time. Today is Seth's 3rd birthday and we are now getting ready to have a small party for him. I remembered an old Ray Charles song I heard as a kid last night...."That's Why I Chose To Sing the Blues" I always liked most of his music. Anyway, I was kind of inspired and I sat down and wrote a song in about 10 minutes. The song is called "My Yoke Is Easy" and I was told by one of my friends that it is one of the best I've done...I Dunno! Seth and I went to the emergency room yesterday and the poor kid has 2 ear infections and a sinus infection to boot. I have been hacking and coughing for a week and now Brent and Teresa have come down with it. I missed work last night...hated to do that but I didn't have much choice. I hate even worse for us to miss church but can you imagine how distracting it would be for 4 people to be constantly coughing during the service! I hate it when others do that.

We had a good Christmas. Seth really got into it this year. Both boys were blessed. Brent got a pair of inline skates and some video games and Seth got a karaoke player and a guitar. Not bad for a 2 yr. old. If you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up he says, "A Tinger" - translation - a singer. If you ask him what he wants to sing about he says, "Bout Jesus and God!" Seth refused to put his guitar and karaoke player in his room....he HAS to put in my studio with my stuff! I don't mind though! :)

My mother in law got me 2 fruitcakes for Christmas. I know that most of you think that is a typical mother in law gift but it just so happens that I LOVE fruitcake! She knows it too! She made them herself and they are real good.

J. I had to go to Poplar Bluff yesterday and order glasses. Out of several hundred frames they had, my wife and I only agreed on one pair. I am old fashioned in taste and it could be argued that I was born 40 or 50 years too late. My wife, on the other hand, is fairly hip with a small flare for the conservative. Ahhh, well, I will have a decent pair of glasses in a few days and will be able to see things in a whole new light! My eye doctor said that my current prescription is too strong. That might explain why I shoot better at the range with my old old glasses. We ate at CiCi's pizza yesterday for luch....all you can eat for like $3.99!!! My MIL is staying with us a few days. We turned her water off so her pipes wouln't freeze (they always do when it gets cold).
She is handy to have around. She's a good cook and a great babysitter! Though Teresa is still doing most of the cooking. Teresa is an awesome cook too. She likes to try new things....and I don't mind being a culinary guinea pig!

J. It was a very small building with a parsonage next door. A group from way down south....Mississippi or Louisiana, I think use to come every now and then and put on a small gospel concert. This group was called The Gospel Continentals. They were a major influence on me musically. They did a lot of their music in a slow blues style. I pulled out an old recording of theirs and found an old old song called In The Valley. I recorded it tonight and I think it sounds pretty good....take a listen:
www.soundclick.com/bands/2/jaycurtmanmusic.htm
Uncle Kenny passed away several years ago after a bout with cancer....He is no longer in his valley!

J. One for bad inmates and one for bad and nutty inmates....also called Wobbleheads by my fellow staff. When the Wobbleheads act up more then usual...by attempting suicide or assaulting staff they are assigned up to about 2 weeks or so of eating "Meal Loaf" also called prison loaf as a behavioral management tool...AKA....punishment! Here are two samples of the Meal loaf recipes! Serve this to your kids sometime or better yet...take a dish to your next Church Fellowhip Dinner!

• 6 slices whole wheat bread, finely chopped
• 4 ounces imitation cheddar cheese, finely grated
• 4 ounces raw carrots, finely grated • 12 ounces spinach, canned, drained
• 2 cups dried Great Northern Beans, soaked, cooked and drained
• 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
• 6 ounces potato flakes, dehydrated
• 6 ounces tomato paste
• 8 ounces powdered skim milk
• 4 ounces raisins

Mix all ingredients in a 12-quart mixing bowl. Make sure all wet items are drained. Mix until stiff, just moist enough to spread. Form three loaves in glazed bread pans. Place loaf pans in the oven on a sheet pan filled with water, to keep the bottom of the loaves from burning. Bake at 325 degrees in a convection oven for approximately 45 minutes. The loaf will start to pull away from the sides of the bread pan when done.

Here is another recipe:

120 slices of wheat bread
25 cups grated nondairy cheese
10 cups raisins
4 cups vegetable oil
15 cups grated carrots
15 cups well-drained spinach
60 cups vegetarian beans
8 cups tomato puree
15 cups nondairy powdered milk
12 cups instant potatoes
1 pound brown sugar
1 cup white sugar

1. Mix.
2. Bake at 325 degrees for 40 minutes.
Makes 60 servings. - Perfect for Church picnics or large family reunions!

Bon Appetit!

On another note: I had to quit Our Calling...too many irons in the fire with my family, school, and work!

J. COYOTE

Welp, I just looked at my blog and realized it's been a couple of weeks since I posted. I am now a member of "Our Calling"..a new southern gospel quartet...or a trio, as we do not have our tenor yet. We had a run through practice last week wich went well and we were supposed to meet again yesterday but Friday night I hit a coyote on the way to work and messed up our car. So I had to spend the most part of the day dealing with that. The Coyote can run at almost 40 mph and jumb over a 8' fence!

<link rel='related' href='http://www.desertusa.com/june96/du_cycot.html' title='TOYOTA VS. Another weekend! Huuuurahhhh! Everybody here is doin...Nothin' but fine! This link goes to the web site of the late great Jake Hess. My all time favorite gospel singer. Elvis was once asked who his favorite singer was and he replied without batting an eye Jake Hess! Jake was troubled with bad health most of his life but whenever some body asked him how he was doing he always replied, "Nothin' but fine!"

We are planning on taking a drive through the country when Brent gets home from school! We use to do that quite regularly but haven't done it in a while. The leaves are turning and falling and my yard looks like it has been paved with gold. I don't believe in raking! I think if the Lord doesn't want the leaves on my yard He will blow them away....which He always does eventually anyway. But as for me....I really don't care! :)

J. I have been studying for a National Government test that I need to take tomorow in Park Hills. I have also been working on a few sound tracks for "Our Calling"....a new southern gospel quartet that is forming and it looks like a may be singing with them. Brent is outside playing basketball with a friend, Seth is napping, and Teresa is in the kitchen fixin' up her famous pork chops! YUM! The latest news is that we have added a digital keyboard to the studio. A Yamaha. It has a great sound and a disk drive so I am able to create midi files or just save something I am working on. Well...I guess I'll close for now...not much elst to "report"

J. Brent decided on "Lambert's"...Home of the throwed roll! I had the BBQ pork steak and Brent had the 16 oz. Ribeye! And they were both out of this world (He gave me a bite of his). Mom-in-law went with us. Tomorow I go back to the prison. This month I celebrate (is that the right word?) nine....count 'em, nine years in law enforcement. Public Law Enforcement that is. You could add another4 for the private sector. I am now contemplating my life and the future. Where do I go from here? What would God have me to do? I have been offered a part time position playing piano for a brand spankin' new southern gospel quartet. I have been playin' and singin' solo for so long it may be a neat experience for me that may also open up new doors. I added a new song to my website, Walkin' & Talkin' With Jesus. I'm anxious to see how it does on the charts. I have to fast for 12 hours tonight....for medical reasons. I am being tested for diabetes tomorow...I'm not worried about that at all though. I'm the type of person who just doesn't hardly worry at all. I guess after you've been shot at and had a knife put to your throat and told you were fixin' to die....you just don't worry about the little stuff any more. What good does it do to worry? Luke 12:25 says, "And which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?" Christians would probably be a lot more happier and live longer if they would remember this. On a post note....The picture below is of the boys and their cousins Wade and Megan at Saturdays "party" and I also joined Googles AdSense....so click away at those adds here and mybe someday I can get the PA system I need....LOL!

Godspeed :)

J. Teresa made a real good caramel cake. We gave Brent a racing game for his Game Cube, another Sponge Bob game, and a pair of jeans. He's happy with that! :) Not much else is going on here. I have to work tonight but then I'm off for the weekend. We are going to take Brent to Outback Steakhouse Monday...that's where he said he'd like to go. Teresa doesn't care for it but I like it. I ate there several times back when I was an Extradition Agent and traveling all over this great country. I ate some pretty good food back in those days. I've had Elk, Buffalo, and ostrich. The ostrich was my favorite. Always wanted to try gator but never got around to it. Seth seemed to enjoy Brent's birthday too. Well children, time for me to sign off so I can shave, shower, and perty myself up for work. Godspeed!

J. That means it is the day before Teresa's birthday! I only get to have 11 days of being one year older then her....so to speak. She turns 34 tomorow. Like I did on the 13th. You may be asking yourself..."I wonder what he got her???" Well....I'm not gonna tell :) !
I am sick as a dog tonight...I think I may have caught something at work. I am probably going to have to call in tonight...it is all I can do just to sit here and type this. Teresa took the boys to the county fair tonight. I would have loved to have gone. Last year it was such a joy to see little Seth giggling as he fed the goats! Little ones do say the darndest things. Last night after our nightly ritual of telling stories, singing Sunday School songs, and praying, I put Seth in his crib for the night. He started crying and said "Daddy...can't sleep" I asked him why and he said, "I nervous!" Hmmmm....what does a 2 yr old have to be nervous about. Then again...this same kid is "sceeerd" of the moon! Seth got into our office last week and found a bottle of white-out. He then proceeded to paint every last one of his toe nails with it! Brent came home with a very good report card this week. He is doing real well. Teresa and I have to run to Park Hills monday so that I can take a National Govt. test, then we have to run back to prepare for another concert that night.
Want to meet some one interesting? Check out the link to Penguin's Ponderings at the lower right hand corner of this site. Dawn Harvey has a basket full of kids and a wonderful husband. I went to College with her back in 89-91! We lost touch for a while but then she found me on "ICQ"...which I no longer use. She is one of my trusted friends and a fair and honest critic of my music. She and her husband Rob own a computer/internet business.
Thanks to every one who has visited this little corner of my virtual world and left your digitized monicer! :)

J. It's been a busy week and this is my FRIDAY....for work anyway. I recieved a very disturbing letter from a young 17 year old Baptist girl today. She is the daughter of strict Mennonite folks. They make her conform to the Mennonite ways and it bothers her because she is a Baptist and does not want to be recognized as a Mennonite. She is struggling to find God's will for her life and desprately trying to find a place to live and "surrogate" parents who are godly. Please keep her in your prayers!

Teresa has been ill lately. They think she may have at least one ulcer. The boys have been fighting lately. I am seriously considering changing their names to Cain and Abel! :) Seth can't stand it when Brent tries to tell him what to do or to take him by the hand to bring him into another room....and Brent just loves to be the BIG brother. I have 2 little sisters and I use to love to fight with the oldest of the two....she loved to fight with me too! Ahhhh, but we all grow out of that, don't we? My brother survived IVAN down in Pensecola, FL. He is staying with friends in Tallahasee now. Apparently Pensecola Christian College is temporarily closed for repairs now.

I plan on rearanging the recording studio Monday. That's the plan anyway. I need to write some new material soon too!

J. Seth hasn't been feeling to well and I knew that he would not be able to handle standing for about 6 hours. I also had a ton of studying to do. That's OK, though. Teresa, Judy, and Brent (My oldest...12) still got to go and they enjoyed it! I had the chance to see President Reagan when I was younger. I worked for the Republican Party as a teen, distributing campaign literature. Teresa and I may start working on a new CD project together. We are finding there are some songs that we can actually do together. It's hard though. It's like trying to find music for a duet between Pavarotti and Buck Owens!

I will also be working on a new project with Jack Hargraves soon. Actually, I guess it's not funny at all....kinda sad! Even so, Lord, come quickly! We will be going back to the Nazarene church near the end of this month to sing for their revival service. Well I put off the inevitable....creating a blog! It was bound to happen sooner or later. For those of you who don't know me....I am a former deputy sheriff and police officer. I am currently a corrections officer. I write / sing / perform gospel music...along with my wife, Teresa, whenever I get the chance. Last night we did a concert at a Nazarene Church near where we lived. It was great! Had a few problems with the church's sound system but we made it through the night. The people there were extremely friendly. I hurt my foot last week and had to take a few days off. I made mention to my pastor, Brother Danny Collins (Calvary Baptist Church in Dexter, MO) that due to my foot I was unable to mow my lawn last week and it was high! I told him I had to get to it soon!!! I mowed it this morning and about 1/2 hour later he came by with his son, Aaron to mow it for me! What a sweet pleasant surprise. What a servant! Brother Danny has only been with us a few weeks and he has already been a huge blessing to our church! Teresa and I are hoping to purchase our own sound system so we won't have problems like we did last night anymore. God will provide!

J.
